Tenochtitlan Pyramid

The Tenochtitlan pyramid, built by the Aztecs, represents the architectural and cultural achievements of ancient Mesoamerica.

How does Math and Physics tie into this?

This great pyramid is a temporal and spiritual heart of the Aztec empire, and the ceremonial precinct of the city. People were sacrificed on this pyramid to the Two Gods they worshipped. Tlacloc and Huitzilopochtli

Ancient Aztec Wonder

During the sacrifices from the Aztecs, they would sever off the heads of others. Pre-Calculus is incorporated into this because the heads hit different steps on their way down the pyramid, allowing us to calculate the Z-Force using the points of impact.

How physics is tied into this is...

How was it built?

The pyramid's impressive design harmoniously integrates with the natural landscape, showcasing the ingenuity of Aztec engineering.

Cultural Legacy

This pyramid was built on Lake Texcoco. Built on two islands, the area was extended using chinampas; which are artificial islands created above the waterline which were later consolidated.

Majestic Symbol

The pyramid's enduring legacy reflects the rich cultural heritage of the Aztec civilization, inspiring awe and admiration for centuries.

Most of the constuction in Tenochtitlan took place during the reigns of four Aztec kings beginning in the 1470s.

Tenochtitlan had an amazing importance for the Aztecs, given that they were looking for a place to live, they found an eagle above a cactus in the middle of the Lake of Texcoco. They decided to built Tenochtitlan there because they thought that the eagle was meaning a signal from God.

Fun fact! Legend says that their God of the Sun, Huitzilopochtli, guided them to find a new place to live!

According to Aztec cosmology, the sun god Huitzilopochtli was waging a constant war against darkness, and if the darkness won, the world would end. The keep the sun moving across the sky and preserve their very lives, the Aztecs had to feed Huitzilopochtli with human hearts and blood.

The Aztec Empire officially recognized the most popular cults such that the deity was represented in the central temple precinct of the capital Tenochtitlan. The imperial cult was specifically that of the distinctive warlike patron god of the Mexica Huitzilopochtli.
