Welcome Back 2020-2021

The 2021-2022 School Year

Welcome Back

Another unusual, unpredictable year...

Expect LOTS of changes and errors and mistakes...inevitable.

We will have to:

BE KIND-- to ourselves; to each other

BE VIGILANT- we're all exhausted, but it takes a big effort to remain safe and follow guidelines

BE OPTIMISTIC - this is a weird time! I know! But a positive outlook and a belief we can do great things will serve us well.

When You're In School...

In Person

We will reincorporate group learning into our class, but will have to stay under 15 minutes.

1.You will need:

  • Your chromebook, fully charged.
  • Writing utensils in working condition

We will have to:

  • Remain at least three feet apart
  • Wear masks at all times
  • Limit passes to necessity
  • Wipe down surfaces and use sanitizer and hand washing
  • Limit sharing of supplies

There may be a movement break between the two periods.

When You Are Attending Remotely

You are NOT PERMITTED to record or photograph our class meetings at ANY TIME. These actions are illegal and against school policy.

Remote Expectations

  • Attendance - required; in Genesis; must be on time
  • Always mute your mic unless given permission to speak
  • Use the chat feature to indicate you have a question
  • Remain at your computer at all times during class. You may use the bathroom, or whatever you need to do, during the scheduled movement break between the two periods
  • REMEMBER: You are IN CLASS. You are required to have your camera on. You should not have any other tabs open except those I've requested that you open. You may not use your cell phone during class.

At the Beginning of Class:

1. Go to Google Classroom

2. Use MEet Link (top left) to join Meet; Mic muted

3. Begin the Do Now posted there.

Some Expectations

Some Expectations and Procedures:

  • If (when) technology freezes or fails, check the chat in Google Meet. Information may also be avaialable in the Remind App. In addition, you should always check the Google Classroom for information.
  • If I need to be absent, all lesson plans will be posted in the Google Classroom.
  • I will be using Hapara to limit and monitor your internet activities.
  • We will use Google Hangouts to create small group work possibilites.
  • For now, your homework will be to finish any unfinished work from class.

Plan for Instruction

Daily Class Format:

1. Do Now- Quote analysis, on paper. Discussion.

2. Roots Activities- We will learn one unit of Greek and Latin Roots each week. There will be an activity each day and a quiz at the end of each week.

3. Reading - we will be reading both fiction and nonfiction texts and learn strategies to understand, analyze, and respond to them. You can expect to read these longer texts:

4. Independent Practice and Group Work: We will use Hangouts, Docs, Slides, and Google Meet to work alone and in groups practicing our skills.
