Esperanza Rising Timeline

Chapter 1

Esperanza loved to go on walks and have talks with her dad but she really loved to hear the hearbeat of the land with her father. This was something that they both loved doing together and it made Esperanza's bond with papa stronger.

Chapter 2

Esperanza would always look foward to her birthday except for her 13th birthday. Every birthday she had the

would create a very big celebration that Papa would create. But on the night before her 13th Birthday her dad

unfortunally past away which caused Esperanza lots of grief.

Chapter 3

Esperanza had went to her fathers funeral very sad wishing this tragety had never happened. Mama couldnt own the Rancho that was once papa's because she was a women. so Tio luis came with a lawyer to talk about it . When Mama and Esperanza finally thought he was done he offered to marry her or else she wouldnt be able to live in the Rancho ever again. Mama refused in disgust becuse of the fact tio luis even thought about marrying her just because she has a good reputation.

chapter 4

The house got burned down by Tio luis so she had to now live in the servants cabin with Alfonso,Hortensia, miguel and abuilita. They all had to move to america and escape but abuilita was hurt from the fire so she had to stay. They went on their journt to America without tio luis noticing till the day after.

chapter 5

The got a wagon from senor rodriguez and found their way to the train station. Esperanza wasn't used to the peasants because she was born in a wealthy family.she didnt like the dirty and horrible conditions. But mama seemed to have changed her attitude to a more positive one. Esperanza feeled that she changed her rules too.

chapter 6

They reached the border and passed it and took a train to los angeles. The got picked up by alfonso's brother. When they got their esperanza had met with a girl named marta she didnt like her because of the mean things that she said. and she also met a girl named isebel, isebel was very friendly compared to marta,.

chapter 7

Espernza didn't like the little shack at all. so she started to argue with mama about it. MAma told her its better to be happy living together then miserable. Every body started their jobs ezperanza had to watch the babies ( lupe and pepe) wioth isebel and sweep the platform she was made fun of for her lack of knowledge with doing these things since its always have been done for her. Miguel helped her how to sweep and isebell told her how to wash clothes.

chapter 8

Alfonso and Miguel shows that the secret package was roses they survived from the fire after El Rancho de Las Rosas

burned down. They had plated the roses in a small shrine they had built. The next day when Isabel and her shelling almonds, Esperanza asks why they are doing that and learns that Josefina will be serving almond flan, then she decides that she will go to the festival

chapter 9

Esperanza had to stay and watch the babies by herself because isebel had to go to school. she gave them raw plumbs which made them sick but she remembered what Hortensia did when she got sick when she was younger. Mama had to go through a dust storm while working outside in the field. Hortensia called a doctor because mama looked very sick. The doctor said she had severe valley fever.

chapter 10

Mama condition had gotten very severe so had to go to the hospital. Esperanza needed a way to pay for mama's hospital bills and for Abuilita to come so she started to work in the feild with Hortensia.

chapter 11

When esperanza went to the hospital she found out mama has pneumonia. Esperanza can't visit mama no more because the doctors cant risk esperanza getting pnemonia too.Esperanza gets so worried because she cant risk loosing both parents she learned about a strike and startedn to worry.

chapter 12

A strike starts and i can become dangerous for esperanza because she needs to work for her mom.The farm workers get surprises each day that can be very dangerous. when esperanza goes to the hospital she learns that her mom can come back home in about a week.

chapter 13

Isabel wants tp win Queen of May she has the highest grades but Esperanza learns she doens have a chance because she is Mexican

and in the end she doesn't win. Miguel ended up digging ditches because the okies decided to work for less. Esperanza got angry that Miguel didn't stand up for himself and got in an argument. The next day Miguel is gone, looking for work up north. That night when Esperanza shows Mama all the money orders she saved for Abuelita's travels, the were gone.
