Video Game Scripts

A) What mistakes could be made when writing a short horror film script? How/why?

The mistakes that could be made when writing a short horror film script could be over teasing the audience. This could happen because script writer may feel as if they are creating a suspenseful atmosphere when really all they are doing is just making the audience which could potentially make the audience lose interest in the film really quickly.

Another mistake is not knowing the difference between a horror and a thriller. Thrillers can suffer tone-wise in a similar format because writers don’t know the difference. As a result, the story backfires because the reader doesn’t know what she’s dealing with.

B) How could these mistakes affect the short horror film if they are not fixed?

If these mistakes are not fixed then the script would not be a good one. If an audience watches the film they are more likely to lose interest and point out all the negative things that have occurred in the movie. When members of audiences become very critical towards films they often end up not liking the film and giving it poor ratings.

Also, the audience may get confused. For example if a writer does not now the difference between a thriller and a horror and creates a screenplay to be a thriller when it is meant to be a horror, audience will get confused and again will end up not liking the film.

C) How could these mistakes be avoided/rectified?

These mistakes could be fixed by re-reading the script and, as a team, point out the errors that are in the script and try and fix it together.

They could also gain feedback from people outside of the production and use that feedback and put it in the script.

Another way how these mistakes could be fixed is if the team put themselves in the audiences shoes and see if they would enjoy it. Doing this would make sure that mistakes are pointed out and removed out of the script.
