Everything you need to know about where your attitude and reactions are from.
An attitude is a general and lasting positive or negative opinion or feeling about some person, object, or issue.
Attitude formation occurs through either direct experiences or the persuasion of others or the media. This makes up our opinion or bias about the things we come in contact with and how we react to them.
EG:
There are two types of conditioning. Operant and Classical.
Operant: When an attitude forms when it has been strengthened through reward or a positive experience. For example your teacher congratulates you for recieving 100% on a test. The feeling of being congratulated on your success makes you want to continue striving for success.
Classical: When a new stimulus comes to elicit an emotional reaction because of its association with a stimulus that already elicits the emotional response.
associate an involuntary response and a stimulus.
Our attitudes are also shaped by other forces such as watching and imitating others, these forces are at work when we interact with others.
Influences:
Culture- taste in food, political opinions, relationships
Parents- there is evidence that kids acquire attitudes from their parents.
Peers- friendships, peer pressure etc.
