Beginning

Discovery of America

The first people in America were Asians. Natives were Inuit.

Later Vikings appeared (the first white people on the continent).

The discovery of America is attributed to Christopher Columbus, who sailed there in 1492.

People

Europeans have forcibly brought slaves from Africa to areas of America.

In the 1860s, slaves were released as a result of the bloody Civil War.

The Indians began to succumb to civilization. They were divided into small and weak militarily, economically and politically tribes.

Threats to their tribes were also diseases.

Now

Today, the United States is a diverse country, culturally, religiously and ethnically.

It is a country with a population of over 323 million people with an upward trend.

The US consists of: the continental part, in which 48 US states are located, the state of Alaska, which is located in the north-western part of the American continent and the archipelago of the Hawaiian Islands located in the Pacific Ocean. The United States also controls 14 dependent territories that are located in the Pacific and the Caribbean.

It borders with Canada and Mexico. The American-Canadian border is the longest state border in the world and amounts to 8893 km.
