Black Panthers Timeline

1966

Founders, Bobby Seale and Huey Newton, created the Black Panthers Party for Self Defense. They based the party on the Ten Point Program which wanted to have full employment and equal opportunities.

May 2, 1967

The Black Panthers marched into the State Capitol in order to protest a law that would restrict the right to bear arms.

This led to Goverener Ronald Reagan banning having loaded guns in public.

Following the shootout between Panther Minister of Defense, Huey Newton and Oakland Police which proved the corrupution of the police, many protested to free Huey

This trial and public attention allowed for people to notice the injustice against African Americans

Free Breakfast Program

The Free Breakfast Program for Childern was launched at St Augustine Esiscopal Church in order to provide free breakfast to African American childern.

The End of the Black Panthers

With the pressure of the US Government, COINTELPRO, the FBI and internal struggles, the Black Panthers were forced to dissolve

Even though the Black Panthers fought for Black Power, it ultimately ended with the dissolution of the group

With the dissolution of the Black Panthers, it still had a massive impact on many political groups such as New Black Panthers Group which was the continuation.

Other groups such as the Yellow Panthers(Vietnamese National Liberation Front) were inspired by these groups.
