What is it?

Professionalism is something where one acts, and speaks with proper etiquettes at all times.

This can be used anywhere such as school or at work.

Where did it start?

It started around the Middle Ages, where the word "profession" was a sign of an occupation where they had many privileges and in return they had to serve their occupation.

So the term eventually described certain attitudes, values and behaviors.

Example #1

Dental Assistants go to school and become profesionals in the dental field. In order for them to be professional they must be well dressed, have good hygiene, and speak well to employees and customer. But most importantly be a team worker.

Example #2

Doctors go to school for about 8 years. Their expectations are some of the highest there is for professionalism. they must speak with precision, confidence and always with a good attitude.

There are three characteristics that define someone who has profesionalism. Integrety, Commitment, and Respectful.

As someone who has to act professional you must dress in the appropriate scrubs and present yourself as best as possible. For males your hair must be nicely comb and facial hair must be a clean shave or trimmed nicely. For females they must have their hair tied in a bun while in the office at all times.

One must act professional in front of others. Not just co-workers but as well as as patients. Using proper language and terminology in the office.

A person must follow the rules to their office has and respect them as well not just these but OSHA, HIPAA, and FEMA.

Work ethics is where a person shows how hard working one is, the stronger the ethics the harder working the person is.

Where are they used?

Work ethics can be used at the office or even at school, you can show yours by showing how motivated you are to work, and learn. As well as how you protray yourself as a dental assistant, such as whether you are a team player or not.

Employers love people with strong working ethics, because this show the person is motivated to work, and is dependable.

Team work can bring in a team of Dental Assistants together, and help them better themselves, give advice to each other. Having communication and understanding of the whole team this will make an outstanding professional team of assistants.
