National flags are patriotic symbols with widely varied interpretations that often include strong military associations because of their original and ongoing use for that purpose. Flags are also used in messaging, advertising, or for decorative purposes.
A flag protocol defines the proper placement, handling, use, and disposal of flags
.
The national flag should be treated with dignity and respect and should not be subjected to any insult and should not be placed at the minimum of another flag.
The flag should be made according to standard specifications and approved requirements.
It is prohibited to raise the flag if its colors are faded, or if it is damaged, dirty, worn out and does not conform to the specified standards and specifications, and it must be ironed and clean.
Not to use the national flag for any purpose that contradicts its original use, and not to add any pictures, phrases or designs to it, and it must be folded.
The national flag may not be used for advertising or advertising purposes, or used as a trademark without obtaining approval from the concerned authorities
The national flag must be raised and lowered reverently, and if it is raised with another flag, it must be done in a harmonious manner. If this is not possible, the state flag must be raised first and lowered last.
During the flag salute, the flag is raised and lowered, and all the people present must stand in respect for it until the ceremony ends.
When using the flag to cover a coffin, the flag must be placed over the coffin in such a way that the left corner of the flag covers the left corner of the coffin
During the playing of the national anthem, the player must stand facing the flag.
The flag at half-mast is only a symbol of the grief of the whole nation, for the loss of a national or foreign dignitary.
The rule is that the national flag is hoisted over government and official buildings, not private facilities.
Also, burning and insulting the flag is an expression of the challenge to the flag state and the narrowness of its policy.
The canton, which is the most important position on a flag, should always be located in the top left, regardless of how the flag flies.
From a building
When displayed at an angle from a window or balcony, the flag is not considered to be hanging vertically and should be hung in the same way that it would be hung from a pole; with the sleeve nearest to the pole and the canton in the position nearest the top of the flagpole. The top point of the maple leaf should be pointing outward from the building, and its stem toward the building.
The place of honour for flying a car pennant is on the front right fender (passenger’s side). This is where the National Flag should be displayed when it is flown alone.
Displaying a distinguishing car pennant is not mandatory for a travelling dignitary. The circumstances determine whether or not it is suitable.
As a general rule, when flying the National Flag or any other flag at half-mast, the centre of the flag should be exactly halfway down the flag pole.
When lowering a flag to the half-mast position, it flag must first be raised to the masthead (top of the flagpole) then lowered slowly to the half-mast position.
