Korean Independence Movement
After years of war, dating back to 1895, The Empire of Japan takes over control of Korea. Korea was now considered another part of Japan. In order for the Japanese government to fully take control of Korea, they ordered a war against Korean culture.
Korea engaged in a rigorous war against Japan in the Pacific War, and in 1945, Japan surrenders to the Allied Forces and Korea is liberated.
In modern day, South Korea and Japan are strong economic allies and both have a future oriented relationship. Though, the tension from the colonial era still exists between the two nations.
Korean nationalism and an anti-japanese sentiment come closer and closer together in the modern day, as a way to oppose Japanese rule and influence in modern day korea.
For one year, more than one million Koreans peacefully protested with a written proclaimation of indepence in hopes of being liberated from Japanese rule. During this time, 7,000 Koreans were killed by Japanese soldiers for their opposition to the Japanese government.
