My First Day of Dance

My first day of dance was definitley a life changing thing for me I started when I was four years old and like since that day I started I knew I wanted to do it forever and i'm still living by that. I tried like all the sports in elementary school like soccer, basketball, softball, skiing and none of those stood out to me like dance always did. My first year of dance I started with what any four year old would take which was ballet/tap combo class and I took that class for two years until I started competition team.

My first year competing

My First Dance Competition

This was another life changing event for me I started competing when I was 6 and im 16 now. I just have always loved it so much all the rehersals and classes ive taken over the past 10 years is completley worth it when I'm able to perform, make people happy, and have the best time backstage with my friends. Its such an amazing community and I think 6 year old me knew that and thats why I stuck with it.

Nationals!!

Nationals

Nationals was a big step for me as a dancer I went to my first and only nationals in 2018 when I was I think 11. At that age I didn't know how big of a deal it was since it was only at Merrill in Portland. Luckily I get to go to nationals for four of my 7 pieces this season and get to appreciate it and how good of an experience it is.

Studio under new Ownership

This was a big part of my sports identity because I really started improving in dance when our studio went under new ownership. I have probably got my best training from our new owner and her sister.

My Mental Health

Mental Health

My mental health has been my biggest road block as a dancer, and could probably be the same for any athlete really. There's just a voice in your head constantly telling you you aren't good enough to you need to be better especially when your on the older side of things and the younger kids look up to you and you feel like you need to be perfect. The mental health aspect is so important to learn to control especially in dance when your always looking at yourself and trying to make everything you do look good.
