INTRO BY CATALINA TELLEZ

Introduction

This project is about Cynthia Ann Parker's life in the story WHERE THE Broken Heart STILL BEATS by Carolyn Meyer. It describes her early life, what happened after Comanches kidnapped her at the age of 9 years old, what were her feelings and thoughts as Comanche woman as living with her family of origin,The White people. At the end, I will provide a reflection about what life would have been the right one for her.

CHILDHOOD

Now, her childhood changed drastically, she became a slave of The Indians, she was hit by them, and little by little she just turned into one of them, she learned their ways to to survive.

Cynthia Ann was born in The Parker's family as a white girl...

She used to live with her parents, siblings and the great-grandfather, Elder Parker who built a Fort by The Navasota River in order to protect his family from The attack of Indians. However, after two years they had lived over there, The Comanches raided The Parker's Fort, killed Cynthia's people, and took her and other people as captives.

LIFE AS A

COMANCHE WOMAN

A new Life as Comanche Woman

She started to be recognized for her skills preparing animal skin, also her notorious height, taller than other women from the tribe and with physical characteristics of The White people.

Then, she was chosen by the Chief of Comanches, Peta Nocona, to be his wife. She felt lucky since he had a great reputation in the tribe for successful raids and stealing horses to The White people. She got three children with him the little Topsannah, Pecos and Quannah who eventually became one of the most famous leaders of The Tribe.

LIFE AS A WHITE WOMAN

Texas Rangers recaptured Cynthia Ann 24 years later and brought her to The Parker's, her family of origin.

She went to Austin for a meeting of Legistature. She becameimportant for being the most famous of The capative woman.

Grandfather

believed she was going to learn fast The White people manners and forget Commanche ways.

Over the time, Lucy's mom does not get along well with Cynthia and her daughter. Martha does not want her in the house, she poisoned Anna against Cynthia, she seemed jealous. Finally she was moved to her brother' s house Silas, but her wife was not nice with her, she hit her daughter for talking in Indian language. She left Silas's house and started to live with her sister, Orleana, Unfortunaltely Prairie Flower died and later Cynthia at the age of 37 years old.

She started to live with Lucy, Ben, Martha and Lucy's parents. Lucy was in charged of teaching her English and other White people ways.

She learned English and their ways because The grandfather promised her to see her People, but not, a war was developing and it was the perfect excuse.

FEELINGS

FEELINGS

With The whites, she felt apart from them, alone, not understanding. She did not have voice and could not express her sadness and frustration,

SHE REPRESSED HER MEMORIES, WHEN THE COMANCHES KILLED HER FAMILY , TREATED HER AS A SLAVE AND HIT HER.

She just hoped to return her People, join her children and husband. At the end, she felt hopeless, desperate, alone and very sad for the lost of her daughter, Topsannah

SHE ADAPTED TO THE CUSTOMS AND LIFESTYLE OF COMANCHES, NOW, IN THE TRIBE, SHE FELT IMPORTANT FOR HER SKILLS TREATING THE ANIMAL SKIN, WIFE OF A LEADER, SHE WAS FEELING VALUABLE IN THAT TRIBE.

THOUGHTS

Thoughts

-As a comanche woman, she just thought about being a strong and good wife, good mother, raised her children, survive as a Comanche knew to do it.

-When living with The white people, her thoughts were related to escape from them, come back to her People. She jus was learning English with the hope to see her husband and children. She was never interested in learning their ways, she though white women were lazy, not strong enough, not good enough wives for their husbands. She found The Whites' Lifesytle as a prison life.

-Once her daughter died, her thoughts just turned around rituals, cut her body for losing her baby, she was lost in sadness, depression and The White family never could understand what she really wanted.
