the Schlieffen plan

1905

the Schlieffen plan was first made in 1905. it was a plan to attack France through a neutral country (Belgium). This plan was named after Count Alfred von Schlieffen. HE die before this plan could be executed but the plan was carried on by other commanders though it was diluted from 80% offense and 20% defense to 50/50 causing the german troops to get stuck in Belgium and not succeed

he was a german general for 15 years and had two children after the second child his wife died. he then focused on his military work and was very good at it till his death in 1913 January 4

naval race

the kaiser of Germany decided he wanted to have the strongest navy but the british had a policy of a 2:1 navy to all other nations so this resulted in the british and germans having a race to have the biggest navy.

the assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand was the perfect incident to start off the war. due to the Austria-hungarians attacking the serbians Russia was forced to step in to keep the serbians safe. due to Serbia being like a little brother to Russia

The arch duke Franz Ferdinand of Austria/Hungary was hated by many of the people in Sarajevo. most of Sarajevo population was from Serbia. The black hand was a terrorist group located in Serbia. who wanted to kill Franz Ferdinand and succeeded in doing so

Ypres

Ypres was the first time gas was used as a weapon in war it would burn you lungs from the inside out and there first encounter with it all they could do is pee on a rag and breath through there urine they suffered many casualties on both sides. until gas mask were introduced into the troops kit.

the Somme

other wise known as the great push that was said to win the war but turns out it was the biggest mistake in the war with 50,000 casualties in one day. a total of 660,000 alliance deaths and 624,000 Entente deaths.

1917

Vimy ridge

this was know as the greatest achievement by the canadians. it took substantial planing before the attack and a very unusual tactic used by the canadians. Vimy ridge was said to be a great german fortress and it was but with a great general ( General Arthur Currie ) we were able to take it over.

Passchendaele

Passchendaele was a war front that had been under fire for a long time so long that the hole thing was a sludge you couldn't get tanks across it and if you feel in a mud pit it would take two or more men just to pull you out. general Currie argued that the task of crossing this war front was impossible and yet it wasn't they still pulled it off but with great number of sacrifices.and it was not to be held as within a number of day the germans won it back.

The Russian revolution

the Russian revolution was caused by lack of pay for commoners so they had a man step up and lead them to over through the government his name was Lenin the leader of the Russian communist movement. czar Nicholas Romanov with his wife Alexandra, son Alexis and daughters Marie, Olga, Tatyana and Anastasia were all killed due to a fire set off in the place they were living in

The Zimmerman telegram

The Zimmerman telegram was a german message to Mexico to tell them to take back the land they lost to the united states. it was not meant to be intercepted by the americans but there is a theory that it was a fake telegram made by the americans to give them a reason to fight the germans.

The treaty of Versailles

this was a treaty to be signed by the germans to not attack the big three and pay 6.6 billion dollars to France cause France was not happy with Germany at all they wanted revenge and to punish Germany for what they have done so he wanted them to weaken the german forces so they couldn't invade France again.
