As defined by the Canadian Mental Health Association; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental illness that involves exposure to trauma involving death, the threat of death, serious injury or sexual violence.
PTSD is associated with significant distress and functional impairment, increased risk for sexual re-victimization, substance abuse, depression, anxiety disorders, and suicidal (Don Romero, 2011).
