Soccer (or Football as the game is called in some parts of the world) has a long history. Soccer first was created in England in the center of the 19th century. But other games like soccer existed way before. The first known examples of any team game involving a ball, which was made out of a rock, occurred in old Mesoamerican cultures over 3,000 years ago. In the game, the ball would symbolize the sun and the captain of the losing team would be sacrificed to the gods. The next form was in china called Cuju and was played with a round ball and a square playing field. It later spread to Japan and was practiced and used on ceremonial forms. The most believed story tells that the game was developed in England in the 12th century. In this time games that resembled football were played on meadows and roads in England. Besides from kicks, the game involved also punches of the ball with the fist. It took a long time until the features of today’s football had been taken into practice. For a long time there was no clear distinction between soccer and rugby. But finally the game we have today was created and named soccer by british in England.
There are many rules for soccer but here is 10 main rules of this game. The first rule is that the field that the team is playing on has to be grass, fake grass, or any artificial turf that is green. The field must be rectangular in shape, and distinctly marked by two short goal lines and two long-touch lines. The field is divided into halves, separated by the halfway line, which runs from the midpoints of each touchline. The second rule is about the ball. The ball must be the shape of a shear and must be made of leather or something similar to leather and the ball is usually made to the suitable ways of the user. The third rule is that a full team must be playing the game on both sides. Matches are generally played by two teams of 11 to a side. Rule four is that all players are required to wear a jersey, shorts, shin guards, socks and cleats. The socks must cover the shin guards entirely. If the referee calls out a player’s equipment unsatisfactory, the player can be sent off until the issue is fixed. The next rule, rule five is the referee who is the authority on the field, and his word is law. If you question a referee’s decision, you can be punished for simply disagreeing. Law six is about the assistant referees who stand at the side and give signals to the referee about situations. Rule seven. A soccer match has two 45-minute halves, with extra time added if the referee’s say so. The halves are separated by a half-time period not to exceed 15 minutes. Rule eight is kick-off which is generally determined by a coin toss, where the winning team can either choose to start with the ball or choose which goal they would like to attack. Rule nine is that the ball is out of bounds when the ball goes out side of the lines boxing in the field. And last but not least is rule ten is that the ball is out of play when it fully crosses either the goal line or the touch line. It is also out of play if the referee stops play for any reason. If, for any reason, the ball hits the frame of the goal or the referee and remains within the goal and touch lines, it is still in play.
