The Water Cycle

Kasey Gallo

FOUR STAGES

The water cycle is powered by the sun's energy and by gravity.

Stage 1: EVAPORATION

EVAPORATION

Evaporation occurs when the warmth from the sun causes water from oceans, lakes, streams, rivers, ice, and soils to rise into the air and turn into water vapor, or gas. The water vapor then joins together to make clouds.

STAGE 2: Condensation

During condensation, the water vapor (gas) cools down and turns into a liquid. This stage is very important because it is responsible for the formation of clouds, and is necessary for rain and snow formation.

CONDENSATION

Stage 3: Precipitation

During Precipitation, the clouds become extremely heavy and water is released from clouds in the form of rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow, or hail

PRECIPITATION

STAGE 4: COLLECTION

During collection, the water that falls from the clouds as rain, sleet, snow, or hail, is collected in oceans, streams, rivers, and lakes. Majority will soak into the ground and will be collected as underground water.
