Cubism

NOT THIS

Cubism is an art style invented by Pablo Picasso and a friend in 1907. Cubism focuses on shapes that might look like cubes. A variety of shapes can be used. This creates a two-dimensional(flat) look.

What is

Cubism

THIS

Picasso's cubist portraits

Picasso's

style

  • Abstract(simplified) face features, keeping only the most important parts.
  • Broke up the face into fragments(pieces) of shapes and colors.
  • Included different face views and features' views. Ex:One side of the face might be profile and the other three-quarter view. The lips could be broken into multiple views as well.
  • Puzzle-like and flat, not realistic.

FOLLOW THE

ART 5 STEP PROCESS

STEP 1: PLAN AND PRACTICE

Start with your idea, think about the two portrait views you want to use and what facial features will be your main focus.

STEP

1

STEP 2: BEGIN TO CREATE

Start sketching out your idea. Begin with drawing the face shape, then start drawing the shapes for the facial features. Draw light until you get it right!

STEP

2

STEP 3: REVISE

Look at your sketch and check if your design works. Don’t worry if it looks funky, it is meant to. Erase and redraw as needed.

STEP

STEP 4: ADD FINISHING TOUCHES

Add the details. Do not worry about making the face colors realistic, maybe try blue hair! Try complementary colors to make it pop. Add a background and outline.

STEP

STEP 5: SHARE AND REFLECT

We share our work with others and learn from our work. Be prepared to discuss during Google Meeting during the week.
