Capone never filed a federal income tax return claiming he had no taxable income (because it was illegal money)
IRS special agent gathered evidence that Capone had made MILLIONS of dollars that was never taxed
He was found guilty on 22 counts of income tax evasion on October 17th, 1931
He was fined $50,000. Today that is equal to $798,055!!!
He was sentence to 11 years in prison
He was ordered to pay back $215,000 in taes. Today that is equal to $3,431,640
He was orginally supposed to carry out his sentence in Atlanta but he began bribing the gaurds to get what he wanted
As a result, he was sent to Alcatraz to finish his sentence.
In 1939, Capone went to a mental hospital. He had dementia related to untreated syphillus,. He had the mental capacity of a 12 year old
He retired to Florida and died in Floriday on January 25th, 1947, at the age of 48.
