War With Hershey
War With Hershey
Milton S. Hershey started the Hershey Chocolate Company long before Franklin C. Mars started his company. Milton S. Hershey is 75 years older than Franklin C. Mars. Mr. Hershey and Mr. Mars had war between them because of Hershey's attempt to gain more sales the Hershey Company launched Mr. Goodbar...a candy bar with penuts added to the chocolate. In an attempt to beat the Hershey Company, the Mars Company added nuts to their Milky Way bar and called it a Snickers Bar. Hershey made a bold move by creating a whole new candy bar, where Mars just added one ingredient to its already best seller. The war actually helped both companies because they both sold a lot of candy bars because everyone was curious as to which one tasted better.

Why Mars Invented M&Ms
The reason Mars made M&M is because American soldiers in World War II were complaining that the chocolate bars in their rations kept melting in their hands and getting all over. To solve the problem, the Mars Company came up with the solution to put a candy coating on the chocolate to keep it from melting in the soldiers’ hands. That’s where the slogan, “Melts in your mouth and not in your hands”, comes from. M &M used to only be available to soldiers in their rations.
