Each applicants will be handed a juror card that contains their personal details (name, address etc), you will then be held in the electoral role where a computer chooses people at random from the jury pool.
If you're chosen ,you'll receive a letter called "Notice to prospective juror", which includes a questionnaire and excusal application.
People are chosen at random from the second ballot by people who have completed the questionnaire, thus making then eligible and available to serve on a jury
There are two types of people who cannot server as a juror:
- People who hold high status such as Governor-general or members of the Executive committee.
- People who have a criminal conviction or are serving a term of imprisonment or detention. Depending on the offense they may be excluded for life.
You are then selected in the ballot you receive a summons for jury service stating you mat need to come to court for the jury selection process
If you do not attend court for empanelment, your name may be called randomly during the empanelment process, which means you may sit in the jury.
