Gravity and Air Resistance

Gravity

Definition

Gravity is the force that brings things toward us,it is one of the four fundamental forces.

According to Einstein, gravity is like a sheet that things will bend according to how much mass they have

Gravity can also be a wave, like gravity waves and it is also predicted by Einstein 100 years before it is discovered

There is also a controversial theory about Gravity as a particle called a graviton.

Difference

Gravity is different in different planets and creates a weight difference and the difference exists even on Earth due to the terrain and also staying higher above the ground also decreases weight

Acceleration

Mass and Weight

Mass VS Weight

Friction

Definition

Friction is a force against the force that is moving, there is a kind of liquid version of friction called viscosity.

Variables

Surface area, surface roughness, material composition are all factors that vary friction.

Daily Life

Examples:

  • Stopping a car
  • Soles of Shoes
  • Rubbing Hands
  • Skiing
  • Lighting a match
  • Sliding a water slide
  • Tyre

Drag (Air Resistance)

Drag

Definition

Air resistance or drag is a type of friction that does the same thing but in the air and the way to decrease drag is to have a streamlined shape

Definition

Daily Usage

  • Cars need the streamlined shape to be faster
  • Airplanes use air resistance to take liftoff and landing
  • Swimsuits use the aerodynamics to make swimmers faster
  • Parachutes as you will see in the video
