• Cort Delacroix- Cort is brave and loyal. He is mad at his mother and sometimes his father for being over at his mother's house so much.
• Liza - Liza is a brave girl. If Cort were with any other girl, they would die. She is kind and caring for her younger sister Francie.
• Francie- Francie is a sweet young girl who cares for animals just as much as she cares for herself.
• Tom Delacroix- Tom is Cort's dad. He is brave, just like Cort, and a river guide. He is obsessed with Cort's mother even though they are divorced.
