Description of Battle:

The Battle of El Alamein was a major turning point in World War II that was fought in Egypt. This was a major war that the Allies had won over the Axis Powers in Northern Africa which stopped the spread of Nazi Germany into North Africa. In this desert war, tanks were a main weapon that was used in this battle.

Significance for Allies:

Winning this major war helped boost Allied powers' morale. Winning this war also meant that the land around the Suez Canal belonged to the Allied powers. Allied victory for this war meant that the Axis powers were stopped in their effort to take parts of Africa.

Description of Battle:

The Battle of Stalingrad is considered the most bloody battle in the history of the Earth. In this war, the Axis powers battled Soviet Union in the Soviet city of Stalingrad. Tanks and artillery such as machine guns were main weapons in this battle.

Significance for Allies:

Since the victory of this war, Nazi Germany was stopped from advancing into the Soviet Union. This was the first major Allied victory and boosted their morales, whereas the Axis powers had their first major setback.

Description of Battle:

This was a major battle in the Pacific theater. It was between the United States and Japan. Aircrafts from Japanese carriers attacked the U.S. base that was on Midway. This was the biggest aerial battle of WWII.

Significance for Allies:

The Japanese wanted to capture Midway for easy access to attack Pearl Harbor and Hawai'i. The Japanese gained a lot of land, and the Allied powers winning meant that they wouldn't gain more land closer to the United States.

Description of Battle:

The Allies invaded the beaches in Normandy, France. Several different countries joined together in the largest invasion battle in history to go to different beaches to push back on Nazi Germany. They invaded here to gain back power of Western Europe.

Significance for Allies:

The Allies had a successful invasion. From here they were able to gain back power all over Western Europe. Here the German army was damaged more than before in Stalingrad or North Africa. This broke down Germany so much, and less than a year later Germany surrendered and soon came the end of WWII.
