What is Cacao

Cacao Introduction

Cacao is a seed or bean that contains antioxidants as well as plant base source of iron. Cacao can created by roasting it and turning it into powder to make it into chocolate.

Cacao was first develope in central America and South America but could of orginated in the Amazon.

Cacao Spread

During the Columbian Exchange, Cacao was spread to the East side Europe being the first to gain it because of its vaule in trading and popularity. After the columbian exchange, it spread to countries from West African like Nigeria and Ghana.

Cacao Value

Cacao was very valuable that in The Aztecs Empire use Cacao as a currency. It was so valuable that only the rich were abke to get hold of it. European used cacao and became popular and The Native people used it in religion ceremonies.

People were demanding cacao so much that labor had to happen to get profit from this product especially since it has to be harvest. This could haopen in Europe since in that time slavery was getting popular.

In Mesoamerica, cacao was used in religion, medicine, commerce and currency. A great example was how The Greater Maya used Cacao in its religions since they believe that God found Cacao in the mountains, as well as, Aztecs belive in that.
