William James (1842-1910) defined pragmatism as "the attitude of turning away from everything, principles, categories, initial inevitability, to then move on to everything, results, consequences, and facts new."

First, from a pragmatist perspective, we live in a world of experience. In the course of time, the human experience changes and therefore the concept of pragmatism about reality also changes.
Second, pragmatism is basically an epistemological thought. Humans act on their environment, then they experience certain consequences. He learns from his transactional experiences with the world around him.
Third, humans are responsible for the values of society. Values are relative and there are no absolute principles that can be guided by. As culture changes, so do values change.
Philosophy of pragmatism states that the truth or not of a theory depends on whether or not the theory is useful for humans in their livelihoods.
Characteristics of pragmatism :
(1) focusing on things within the range of human sensory experience,
(2) what is considered correct is what is useful or functional, and
(3) humans are responsible for the values in society
