Activism is another way that Robinson helped advocate for the Black community. We will incorporate his activism into our monument by having a quote by Roberson engraved on the monument.

Robinson served on the bord of the NAACP and acvcated for equal treament of all races in sports. He advocated for civil rights movement when writing a lettter to Ronland L. Elliott. Addersing the increase in racical violence and that the US was on the verge of a race war that could not be avoided. In his letter he demanded that Elliott addressed these problems and the assantion of cilvl right leaders that had recently happend.

Robinson also wrote a letter to the White House on May 13 1958 voicing is disapointment in the president's actions with protecting the right of African Americans. He voiced that by the President telling African Americns to be "patient" and to wait to have basic civil right was outragous. He felt that the government let down the black commuinty once again and that he was no longer waiting for the government to fix things. He took matters into his own hands.

We can see the impacts that Jackie Robinson had on the world; from the MLB to to-day-to life. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. He took away the color barrier in the MLB and made a path for future African Americans to be in the MLB. He inspired young African Americans to pursue their dreams in sports. His success had a major impact on the black community. His actions advocated for the civil right movements in the 1940s as he pushed through segregation and racism. Jackie Robinsion's achievements are a part of American Culture and deserve to be recognized by all with a monument.

Historical Context

About Us!

During the 1940s amidst the Jim Crow era black and white Americans were heavily segregated. After the abolishment of slavery black people were “free” in America if they obeyed segregation, which would separate all activities based on color. Places such as schools, banks, parks and sports had their white and colored counterparts. These laws caused systematic racism by putting African Americans at a constant disadvantage in the US. Jackie Robinson, an African American baseball player was one of the first to combat these societal limitations in sports. He left the negro leauge to play in the majority white MLB; when he joined the Booklyn Doggers in 1947 he gained a lot of recognition and brought hope to the success in the civil rights movement.
