BEFORE & AFTER EUROPEAN IMPERIALISM IN AFRICA
Before European imperialism in Africa, in 1854, exports and imports in Europe were really low. During this time Europe was experiencing a trade deficit. Europe only made 2.5 million pounds from exports and spent around 4 million pounds on imports.
Imports and Exports After
Great Britain's Imports and Exports in 1854 and the 1900s
This graph shows the imports and exports before and after European imperialism in Africa. In the 1800s Europe was in a trade deficit, this was before they ever got resources from Africa. The graph shows after imperialism in Africa, after Europe got many resources and materials from Africa, this helped Europe's economy grow.
After European countries got the resources they need from Africa, their economies grew, a lot. From getting resources such as cotton, sugar, coal, copper, gold, and many other materials, Europe was able to create many new industries. Creating these industries for clothes, food, metal, and loads of others, Europe was able to grow their economy very fast. From being able to get these resources from imports and exports Europe benefited a lot, more than they ever could. Without getting these resources and materials from Africa this may have never been possible.
HOW EUROPE BENEFITED
Economic growth and wealth for European countries was the main driving force behind European imperialism in Africa. Without the need for these resources in Africa to grow Europe’s economy, Europe would not need to create advanced technologies, or grow their national pride, or maybe European countries would never show no respect to Africans. The graph and data shows that that with European countries imperializing Africa, Europe was able to grow their economy. This is why economic growth and wealth for European countries was the main force behind European imperialism in Africa.
