Prince Andrei dislikes the parties and craziness of high Russian society. He prefers to spend time alone, or with those who he truly cares about.
Prince Andrei thinks in terms of the abstract and complex. He is less concerned with the day's schedule and more with the nature of war and evil.
Bolkonsky makes decisions rationally, and does not let his feelings cloud his judgement. That being said, he sometimes comes off as unfeeling and cold.
Prince Andrei has a strong desire for order and follow through. He thrives in structured organizations like the army.
Princess Marya, although she has opportunities to leave, spends her life at home with her father. She is shy and unwilling to go out into the world.
Princess Marya processes information through her five senses. She is practical, and lives in the "here and now." She is concerned with how to benefit the lives of those she loves in concrete ways.
Princess Bolkansky makes decisions based on her feelings. Her whole life is dedicated to serving her father and praying for her brother. Nothing holds any worth for her other than their happiness.
Marya goes about her life in a scheduled, orderly way. She is cautious rather than spontaneous, and is consistent rather than creative.
Pierre is an extroverted introvert, like many INFs. He craves companionship, but only really feels that companionship with a few people, regardless of the parties he seeks it in.
Pierre is Intuitive to a fault. With his head constantly in the clouds, he fails to apply his well-thought-out ideals to his actual life and often seems unaware of what is going on around him. He doesn't even recognize the danger of treating a battle like a spectator sport!
Pierre is genuinely and intimately concerned with the welfare of everyone he knows, and even those he doesn't know. This inspires him to acts like saving a baby from a burning house for a complete stranger.
Pierre acts in a perceiving manner. He doesn't care much for class systems and order, and he is spontaneous enough to try to assassinate Napoleon at basically a moment's notice!
Natasha craves society, craves attention, even. She wants to be noticed, praised, loved, and she is for most of the book. She is clearly an extrovert.
Natasha lives in the "here and now." What occupies her mind and heart is whatever she happens to be feeling at that moment. She processes information through her five senses.
Natasha is a violent Feeler. She is prepared to change her entire course and direction of life based on whatever her emotions are at the current moment.
Spontaneity, as mentioned earlier, basically sums up Natasha's character. I think it's very safe to give her a P.
Nikolai is an extrovert. When Marya is in trouble, he puts himself out there in a way that is simply uncharacteristic of an I. His gallant behavior in the war confirms this category in my mind.
Nikolai is extremely idealistic. He is a patriot, a great believer in chivalry, and is the kind of dreamer that makes him an easy N.
Nikolai is motivated by his passions. He is prideful, compassionate, and would do anything for love. I think this truly categorizes him as an F.
Nikolai thrives in the order and discipline of the army, and is quite comfortable with the class system and his position in it. He is organized, efficient, and a clear J.
