Life of Taro
Marukami, also known as Taro, was born in Echigo and was the third son of a poor samurai under Lord Uesugi Kenshin.
Lord Takeda Shingen attacked Echigo, and Marukami's village was destroyed. He was given to Lord Akiyama and was called Taro. He was taken to Kofuchu, the city which held the mansion of Lord Akiyama. There he served the cook of the servents, Togan.
Taro's master, Togan, died in a fight where someone stabbed him with a knife. Then, Lord Akiyama reassigned Taro to become a stable boy where he would stay until he was fifteen.
Taro went on a secret mission with Takeda Katsuori to the temple of Toko-ji. In the morning, Katsuori's brother Yoshinobu was found dead.
Taro learned to read and write, and was recognized by a monk from Toko-ji. He was sent to Iida castle and became a messenger for Lord Akiyama. He met another messenger named Yoshitoki and became his friend.
Lord Akiyama gave Taro the name Marukami Harutomo. This was a great honor in Japan. There were rumors in Iida castle that Lord Akiyama would go to war.
Lord Akiyama's army went to war at Iwamura castle. Harutomo is appointed Master of Rice. Lord Akiyama's army defeated Iwamura castle.
Harutomo feel in love with a girl named Aki-hime. Lord Takeda Shingin died, and Lord Takeda Katsuori was the leader. While Harutomo was sending a message to Lord Katsuori, Iwamura castle was attacked. Almost everyone including Lord Akiyama was dead. He disguised himself and went into the castle to find Aki-hime. There they live happily ever after.
