Upon death, the soul split into two segments: The Ba and the Ka

The Ba was thought to the personality of the deceased (humor, charm, wit)

The Ka was though to be the life force

The Ba and the Ka

The Afterlife

After death, the Ba watched over the living family while the Ka entered the Land of Two Fields, the afterlife. Whatever items the individual was buried with would be able to access them there.

Graverobbers could potentially jeopardize an individual’s journey to the afterlife or bring harm to the body.

which were blockaded

and thus made more

difficult to enter.

These structures offered the greatest amount of security for Pharaoh, who was understood to be Horus in life and Osiris in death

Additionally, the triangular shape symbolized a ray of sunlight, or the power of Ra, reflecting on the Pharaoh’s body
