Transportation Corps History

August 18, 1899: Transportation Corps was est. under the quartermaster department

March 11, 1919: The transportation Corps started merging embarkation service & the inland traffic service

History of the Corps

July 15, 1920: The Army Transportation Corps was est. as a separated corps from the quartermaster to take control of all transportation

July 31, 1942: The corps was officially established as a separate branch during WWII

June 28, 1950: President Truman made the corps a permanent branch in the Army

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Movement of soldiers, equipment and supplies by any transportation means (Trucks, planes, ships, trains and subs) (Transporting ammo, food, medical equip. etc

  • Managing embarkation and debarkation of U.S. Army ports and bases around the world
  • Provide fuel, maintenance, and repair of equipment and vehicles

Transportation Officer (88A)

Duties:

  • Commanding and controlling transportation operations & combined armed forces during land combat

  • Coordinate employment of transportation soldiers at all levels of command in the US and multinational operations
