Boone High School, situated in the middle of Orange County, has an overall demographic makeup similar to that of the city and county. Within the school, programs like the Health Sciences Academy and the Finance and Criminal Justice magnet have less diversity.

The School Board of Orange County is the political body that employs the district superintendent and controls the budget and decision making for the school district.
The board is made up of eight members: the chairperson and seven representatives, each elected within an individual district. Members must live in the district which they represent.
Boone High School sits in board district three. Board member Linda Kobert was recently re-elected for another 4-year term, and maintains a close relationship with the school. She attends school events and gives her cell phone number and email to all employees to use for any questions or concerns that they might have.

The zone reaches to 408 on the north end and stretches down to Hoffner Avenue to the south. To the East, the zone reaches to Semoran Avenue, where there is much transient movement of students between Boone and neighboring Colonial High.
The zone is bordered by the high school zones for Jones, Edgewater, Colonial, and Oak Ridge High Schools.
Within a 5-mile radius around Boone, there are 5 private schools and 16 public schools. Many of these public schools are the elementary and middle schools that feed to Boone.

Boone scores as an A on state school grades regularly, in 2017, Boone was rated a B, but was also the top-rated high school in OCPS.
William R. Boone High School was founded in 1952. Originally, Orlando had only one high school. The original school was located on the campus of what is now Howard Middle School, about 10 blocks from the current Boone campus. in 1952, the school split into Orlando North, which is now Edgewater High, and Orlando South, which is now Boone.
Boone has a strong alumni presence, being the original Orlando high school, and maintains a rivalry with Edgewater since the split.
Boone maintains close relationships with the community and has many partnerships with local businesses.
For example, in 2018, the school was able to build a new football stadium with a turf field, funded from corporate sponsorships and donations.
Boone has an extremely active and involved PTSA, who provide countless donations and man hours each year. One of the largest PTSA initiatives is the Kemosabe Kloset, which is a fully stocked food pantry and clothing closet available to students year round. PTSA also provides Thanksgiving food baskets and Holiday gift bags for students in need through the Kloset program.
The school's College and Career center, located within the guidance department, is staffed by a full-time college counselor. Strong relationships exist between the school and local colleges and universities like Rollins College, UCF, and Valencia. In addition, colleges from across the state and nation visit the center regularly to present information and meet with interested students.
The school maintains a close relationship with Valencia Community College. In addition to the partnership with the college and career center, students can dual enroll at Valencia to earn college credits for free while enrolled at Boone. Some classes are taught on campus by adjunct professors who come to Boone each day and some are taught on the Valencia campus or online.
Boone also offers a Valencia New Student Experience course on campus, which seniors can take to earn college credit and prepare for college. This course is free and is taught by one of Boone's guidance counselors, who is also an adjunct professor at the college.
The school employs a full time career and technical education counselor as well, who maintains a close relationship with Orlando Technical College.
Students can dual enroll starting in 11th grade and spend half their day at the tech campus, earning certifications and diplomas and returning to campus in the afternoon to complete their core classes.
These business have become official partners with BHS, providing various services to students, families, and staff. Many donate goods and services to the school and offer discounts to staff and families.
In partnership with Catholic Charities of Central Florida, Boone offers 1:1 mentoring for students who are refugees. Volunteer mentors from PTSA work with Catholic Charities case workers, guidance counselors, and the families and meet regularly with students on campus and off to support their needs.
The College Map, a local tutoring and college planning company, provides free tutoring during the school day for ESOL students. Senior ESOL students meet weekly with the instructor for small-group SAT/ACT prep classes.
