Nowadays there is lots of discussion about homework. Some people wonder if it is really useful or if on the contrary it is rather useless. Generally teachers' opinions differ from parents and students' opinions.
There must be a reason if almost every teacher includes homework in their teaching, homework can be a useful way to know if a student understands the topic, because obviously, if he did not, he could not do it.
Doing exercises helps memorize the lesson, maybe even using the book or the notes to get help; moreover, depending on the exercise, they are a good training for the tests, in fact students can check if they are able to do them.
Nowadays students do a lot of extra-school activities, for instance playing an instrument, doing sport or voluntary work. Obviously students that do these activities must organize their time better than the students who do not do extra activities. In fact they must find some time for homework and consequently they learn not to waste their time.
They think homework is boring and repetitive and they think teachers give too many exercises or activities which are not really useful to them
Many students do not do homework or copy it, in fact it is common to see students copying homework on the train or on the bus to school.

Last year we had online lessons instead of in presence lessons due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This situation created a different range of opinions.

On one hand undoubtedly this learning method is more confortable for the students.
in fact students can wake up later than usual, then the lessons are shorter and there is a gap between one lesson and the other and students can wear lounge clothes.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion I think online classes should be used just in extreme cases as the last resource because I find online lessons more stressful and students usually understand better during school lessons. In addition the online experience may be worsened by not having the right equipment.
On the other hand learning online can be a problem because not everyone has the appropriate device and because some teachers could not use the software correctly.
Another disadvantage is that you completely lack social interactions and you can not meet your friends and the lessons in the classrooms are certainly more lively.
It is more difficult for the teacher if a student is not learning well and it is more difficult for the students to explain the teacher what they have not understood.
Even if the students are not distracted by their classmates they can get distracted from their digital devices or by the other family members
