Evolution of Democracy

Direct Democracy in Athens

In the year 508 B.C. in Athens a direct democracy was established where every citizen voted for laws

The Roman Republic 509B.C.

Rome was ruled by a representative government in which citizens voted for people to represent them and make laws

The Magna Carta (1215)

The king of England was forced to sign the the Great Charter, which resulted in a limited monarchy. The king's power was limtied because he had to consult his nobles to tax citizens in order to go to war.

The Model Parliament (1295)

The king of England summoned to a meeting nobles,knights,bishops,and two citizens from each town in England. This meeting set the percendent for electing representativesof the people to form Parliament, a Legislature that made the laws for England.

Reign of Parliament (1649-1653)

After overthrowing the monarchy in a bloody civil war, England became, for a short time, a republic where Parliament was the only ruling body.

The American Constitution (1789)

The American Constitution established a representative democracy in which citizens vote for representatives to make laws and a president to execute them.

The Glorious Revolution (1688)

This established England as a limited constitutional monarchy in which the power of the monarchy was serverly limited by the laws and the traditions established by Parliament.

The French Revolution (1789-1794)

A popular uprising against the absolutionist rule in France created a radical republican government. It's a failure led to the rule of France under Napoleon.

The Act of Parliament is what overthrew the monarchy in a bloody civil war in England

In the year A.D. 2000 The French Revolution led to failure in government and France fell into the ruling of Napoleon.
