CFC SOLD MUSAFFAH

What is Affliction ?

The Greeks adopted the meaning of this form of torture into their language. The word “affliction” came to mean, “the pressure and stress of unfavorable circumstances which befall a person’s life.”

Affliction is a broad term which includes many forms of adversity such as trials, tribulations, persecution, mental and emotional stress, and even physical suffering.

THE PROBLEM WITH AFFLICTION

Mark 4:17 (GW)

"But they don’t develop any roots. They last for a short time. When suffering or persecution comes along because of the word, they immediately fall (from faith)."

WHAT DO THE SCRIPTURES SAY?

PETER – cautioned us not to view the sudden appearance of trials as an unusual event in the believer’s life: “Beloved, DO NOT THINK IT STRANGE concerning the FIERY TRIAL which is to try you, as though some Strange thing happened to you” ( I Pet. 4:12).

PAUL – reminded us that “we must go THROUGH MANY TRIBULATIONS to enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22). He also told us “That we would SUFFER TRIBULATION”, and even went so far as to remind us that God had appointed us to go through them! (I Thess. 3:3, 4)

JESUS – even warned the church of coming tribulations: IN THE WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATION; but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world!” (John 16: 33).

WHY GOD ALLOWS AFFLICTION

2 Cor. 4:17 (NLT)

"For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!"

WHAT GOOD DOES AFFLICTION ACCOMPLISH?

Afflictions build our faith

It produces Christ-like character in our lives

2 Thess. 1:3-4

“We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.”

PEACE

Isaiah 48:10

“Behold, I have refined you…I have tested you in the furnace of affliction”

Afflictions build our Spiritual Endurance

It builds determination in us to keep pressing forward to God. Just as James reminds us: “Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience” (James 1:3).

“Blessed be the God … who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble ..."

(II Cor. 1:3, 4).
