Where Does Chocolate Come From?

Four West African countries produce 70% of the world's cocoa beans: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon. The world's two largest cocoa producers, are the Ivory Coast and Ghana which produce more than half of the world's cocoa.

How is it Produced?

The cacao tree's seeds have a bitter taste and must be fermented before flavour can develop. The beans are dried, cleaned, and roasted after fermentation. Cacao nibs are made by removing the shell of the cacao bean. After that, the nibs are ground into cocao mass or pure chocolate in a rough form.

What is the difference between the different kinds of chocolate?

White chocolate contains no cocoa solids at all, while milk and dark chocolate are made from various proportions of the non-fat part of the cocoa bean. Instead, cocoa butter, a pale yellow edible vegetable fat with a cocoa aroma and flavour, is used to make white chocolate.

Dark Chocolate

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains 50-90% cocoa solids. Dark chocolate increases the feel good chemicals serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Cocoa snuff is a raw cocoa that when snorted can give you a euphoric high that can last 30-60 minutes and will also provide energy, focus and motivation

Milk Chocolate

Milk chocolate contains anywhere from 10-50% cocoa solids. Chocolate is increasingly gaining a place among the circle of healthy foods, thanks to its high antioxidant content. According to some studies, chocolate may protect the skin from the sun's harmful rays.

White Chocolate

Cocoa butter mixed with sugar, often with a little vanilla added for flavoring. White chocolate, when consumed in moderation, can help regulate fat levels in the body, which can lower bad cholesterol levels. This can help you maintain a healthy heart and reduce your chances of developing coronary heart disease.

What are Anti-oxidants?

Antioxidants are substances that protect your cells from free radicals, which can cause heart disease, cancer, and other illnesses. Free radicals are molecules formed when your body breaks down food or is exposed to tobacco smoke or radiation.

Health Benefits of Chocolate
