Requiem Mass or Mass for the Dead

when any or all of the faithful who are dead are remembered and prayers are offered in the hope that their souls will pass from this life to eternal life in God’s heavenly kingdom through Christ in the context of the Holy Mass.

Nuptial Mass or Wedding Mass

when a man and a woman are united in the Sacrament of Matrimony in the context of the Holy Mass. (The word nuptial is derived from the Latin language, which means wedding or marriage in the general sense and taken from the literal sense: “to cover, to veil.”)

Low Mass

Solemn Mass

Entirely read or spoken by celebrant. No chanting or singing, hymns by congregation. The celebrant may even lead the singing of the hymns. Sometimes music may be played softly during certain parts of the Mass in order to help create a more uplifting atmosphere..

High Mass with assistants to the celebrant. Includes chanting of Readings and Gospel, use of incense.The altar may be incensed during the Entrance Rite, the Gospel prior to its proclamation, and the gifts of bread and wine as well as the altar during the Offertory.

Pontifical Mass

Concelebrated Mass

Celebrated by multiple bishops or priests, with primary presider. The concelebrants speak aloud and together the words of consecration over the bread and wine.Although a Mass may be concelebrated, there is still one who presides by saying or singing most parts of the Mass. The one who presides is usually the highest ranking bishop or priest present at the Mass.
