VARIATIONS & OVERALL PRODUCT

Before looking into the components and Supply Chain processes it will be valuable to look at the variations of the product and what it entails on the surface.

VARIATIONS & OVERALL PRODUCT

VARIATIONS

MOUNTAIN MIX VARIATIONS

Signature Select Moutain Mix Trail Mix provides consumers with all kinds of variations and packaging that can helpful for those looking for a small on-the-go snack, a craving for a particular aspect of the trail mix, such as love peanuts/hate raisins, or something for the whole family.

*As you can see below there is an option for snack size bags which is perfect for parents to give to their kids for lunch for school. You can also grab a countainer to make it last as a snack at home.

OVERALL PRODUCT

Overall Product

Now that we've talked about some of the variations of the product let's dive into the product as a whole.

Trail Mix has been around for centuries and is relatively common with many companies involved in the industry such as Archer Farms, Kirkland, and Back to Nature. Common food items that make up trail mix include raisins, peanuts, small chocolate (i.e. M&M'S) and almonds. Trail Mix is a product that has many ingredients that need to be transported to distributions centers, creating ample opportunities for shipping services.

COMPONENTS

In this section I will explore the specific ingredients in the Signature Select Mountain Mix and I will also explain other aspects such as what makes up the packaging.

Raisins

How Raisins get from Point A to Point B

Signature Select does not produce their own raisins; therefore, they rely on suppliers to deliver raisins to their company so they can add them to their trail mix products.

I see two trucking opportunities here.

Nuts

Nuts Journey to Retail Stores

1.

Similar with raisins, nuts (both peanuts and almonds) must be grown on a farm and transported to the companies that own these farms. Both ingredients have trucking opportunities.

2.

Once these nuts are added to the trail mix and are ready for delivery to retail stores this brings another trucking need for transportation of the final product.

3.

Finally, the product arrives at the store and consumers can choose the flavor and packaging of their choosing.

Parntership with Mars for M&M'S

M&M'S

It is no secret that Mars owns the M&M brand and trademark. With this in mind it is critical that Signature Select work out a deal with Mars so that M&M'S could be added to their trail mix variations. Transporting these M&M'S from Mars factories to Signature Select suppliers is another opportunity for trucking use.

What makes up packaging?

Packaging

The packaging for this product includes both hard plastic containers, soft plastic for snack bag packages, plastic caps for containers, and plastic packaging to house the snack bag packages. All of this plastic must come from manufacturers and all result in movement of materials opening an opportunity for more trucking needs.

SUPPLY CHAIN

SUPPLY CHAIN LOGISTICS

In this final section I summarized the process of the supply chain when it comes to the ingredients of trail mix.
