ARE HUMANS STILL EVOLVING?

Food Tolerance

HUMAN EVOLUTION IN THE PAST

Over succeeding centuries humans have been able to adjust to certain foods that they where once unable to digest.

11 000 years ago humans could not digest lactose

Dairy Farming

90% of Asian descendants are lactose and tolerant

Evidence #1

A great way to understand how humans have evolved is to look at their tolerance to regional foods. For instance, Europe has had a generationally well known past for dairy farming which has allowed their digestive system to digest dairy products. On the other hand, Asia did not focus on rely on dairy farming which has caused them to be unable to digest dairy products

Only 5% of European descendants are lactose and tolerant

when slicing meat off a bone butchery marks are left behind. Scientists have indeed concluded from these marks that they are a few million years old. it is back then that human meat digestion began to occur which is what now allows us to digest meat.

Meat-Eaters!

Evidence #2

Around 2.6 million years ago the diet of humans mainly consisted of fruits, flowers, insects, seeds and nuts. But today humans are able to digest all kinds of meat from land animals to fish to birds. So how is this possible? It is possible because of evolution

Bioinformatics and

the Null Hypothesis

Bioinformatics in evolution

Bioinformatics are (computer aided) tools used to study DNA and genetic code. these tools can be used in the Null hypothesis which allows us to determine whether evolution is occuring in a population or not.

Null Hypothesis

by comparing the starting and ending frequencies of allele (variant form of a gene) we can determine if evolution is occuring. if the frquencies change over time then evolution is occuring but if the frequencies do not change then evolution is not occuring

what will humans look like in 100 000 years?

Humans in the future

It is quite hard for sceintists to predict exactly how humans are going to look like in the future, but there are certains theories that have been developped as to what we will look like

because technology is so abundant around us nowadays, our eyes are often restless going from device to device. Over 100 000 thousand years from now our eyes will adjust to low light visison and increased visional protection against cosmic rays, resulting in our eyes looking much bigger
