Virtues Present in Caesar

Brutus and Cassius are devoted to helping eachother, even if it meant dying in the process

Gravitas: Virtue of seriousness or devotion

Brutus devotes the entirety of his life to the people of Rome, even if it comes down to killing Caesar for the greater good.

Simplicitas: Virtue of frankness and honesty

Cassius and the conspirators state outright their plans to murder Mark Antony, implying they would go through with their blood shedding plan without the guidance of Brutus.

Virtus: Virtue of courage, character, and worth

Cassius seeks to convince Romans that he is worthy of everything Caesar is, taking the initative to get rid of him before things spiral.

Personal and Societal Virtues

Personal

Personal and Societal Virtues

In my own life, I have firsthand seen pietas through my family's devotion to supporting eachother, gravitas through my dedication to helping those I love, simpliticas through the honesty my mother had for anything I did, and virtus through my dad's courageousness throughout anything life put him through.

Societal

In the world, Roman virtues are reflected in religious, moral, political, and societal standards. Religiously, people are expected to love God's creations as a standard, much like the Roman virtue of pietas. Morally, it is human nature for many to lend help to others, corresponding to gravitas. Politically, you generally need to be bold and convincing, much like simpliticas. Lastly, it is socially more acceptable to be seen as courageous rather than weak, similar to the Roman virtue of Virtus.

Shaping Events and Brutus

How Virtues Shape Brutus

How Virtues Shape Events

Within the play, characters rely on virtues to continue on with the murder of Caesar, such as boldness and willing to save the citizens of Rome from corruption.

Brutus' reflection on his virtues allows him to come to the conclusion of killing his best friend Caesar. His devotion to the Roman people, gravitas, is the main factor for his change of mind. It, in turn, leaves Brutus thinking and feeling different on behalf of Cassius' manipulation.

Shaping Personal Life and The World

How Virtues Shape Personal Life

Shaping Personal Life and The World

Roman virtues shape my life by providing reason towards the behaviors I often see applied to myself or others, giving me context to reflect on my own and others behaviors.

How Virtues Shape The World

Roman virtues shape society by giving it a set of values to go by, shaping the way we think and behave in society contrast to our personal virtues.
