The Interior Plains of Canada are large regions of open fields that cover parts of Manitoba, Saskathewan, Alberta and the Northwest territories. It ranges from the Artic Ocean all the way down to the US, A distance roughly 2700km. It is very good for growing different types of crops, like wheat, barley, oats and oil seeds like canola.
Formation
In many areas the glaciers left deposits which eventually made the Interior plains a gently rolled landscape. When the glaciers melted it created a very large lake, which now is most of southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The floor of this huge lake was covered by sediments which made it very flat.
Economic importance
The interior planes play a major part in canada's economy. Over millions of years organic materials that used to be a part of ancient swamps and shallow seas have been covered by sedimentary rock and compressed into fossil fuels. The flat surface of the plains caused by the creation of sedimentary rock is perfect for farming and agraculture.
