Summary
Ancient Rome enjoyed various breakfast foods, including bread, fresh meat, fish, and vegetables. But best of all, they had PANCAKES. They sweetened most of their food with honey; including their pancakes. Honey especially tastes good with these pancakes.
Eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday is a Roman Catholic origin. They took this day to rejoice and cleanse themselves of sins. They all feasted on a simple dish, and that dish, was pancakes. They even had a pancake bell to notify everyone that the pancakes were ready or to tell people to stop working and start making the pancakes.
The recipe was found in an Ancient Roman collection of recipes called the Apicus. Regular families ate this after dinner or for dessert.
Very thin and crepe like because
they did not use baking powder.
Always served with honey
Served also with pepper.
