What is Domestic Violence
Topic 1
Domestic violence is physical, sexual, psychological and economic abuse at home. (Family member or someone you close to) People never talk about domestic violence, even though It is happening to people around us all the time. according to article 15 of the Lagos State Law to provide protection against domestic violence. The penalty is approximately $683.
I chose domestic violence because I personally know a lot of people who have experienced it. Domestic violence impacts people in unsafe homes and people with rough family lives are impacted.

Covid-19 impact
Since the COVID-19 pandemic domestic violence rates have gone up. People are trapped in toxic households, in quarantine.
COVID-19 impacts
More than 10 million men and women are impacted each year. Domestic violence can increase the chance of mental health issues, and sometimes physical issues.
Topic 3
Some causes of this social issue is parents and children raised and taught the wrong way, drugs, alcohol, etc. Politicians aren't speaking of this enough either, and it needs to be spoken of more.

Surrey Women's Center
The surrey women's Center is a place that helps women in domestic violence and experiencing sexual assault at home. I have chosen to donate the $5000 to this charity because they they specifically aim the charity towards women and also include sexual assault in their charity. If you volunteer you can work on the drop in center, and emergency outreach.

What we can do to help and stop domestic violence from happening

We can stop domestic violence from happening by not drinking or doing drugs around your kids, making sure your kids or family members are in safe environments, and by calling hotlines and charities.
