Vietnam : Sustainable Development Goals

Overall SDG Info.

According to the SDGs Knowledge Platform, "The Government of Viet Nam is committed to mobilizing all resources and the participation of government ministries and agencies at all levels, organizations, communities and the people."

Vietnam has, during its implimentations, carefully considered its economic position, available resources, and specific circumstances. As a low-middle income country that faces the brunt of the climate crisis, "[it is] therefore more vulnerable to its fluctuations." The SDGs have been translated into 115 feasable targets, with main targets correlating to the country's situation. Vietnam, despite making leaping progressions single-handedly, will need humanitarian and financial support, exchanged knowledge, and global coperation if it honestly wants to excell in promoting the SDGs.

Overall, the country has adopted a relatively optimistic outlook on their goals, hoping to have credit for some honorable achievements by 2030.

The following information enclosed within subtopics one and two are entirely sourced from SDGs Knowledge Platform, which has carefullly illustrated an overall look at the progress Vietnam has made in many of the Sustainable Development Goals' Sectors, as well as what Vietnam will need to improve upon ongoing. The amount of detail the site wrote out was too lengthy to memorize and communicate on here individually, so the following quotes hold any essential information.

Achievements

"Going forward, Viet Nam will ... need to: improve society’s awareness of and mobilize all stakeholders’ participation in sustainable development efforts; enhance institutional set-up and policy frameworks for sustainable development; foster cooperation between the Government and the business sector, domestic organizations, and the international community in SDG implementation; issue national SDG indicators and strengthen national statistical capacity; mainstream SDGs into development policies and strategies; and strengthen the mobilization of resources, particularly from the private sector for SDG implementation."

Necessary Improvements

Focuses

Vietname has placed its main focus in social equality. Whether that be economic opportunity, social justice, or another sub-concern of this wide issue, the country has chosen to implement the majority of its measure in goals such as no poverty, reduced inequalities, etc. While simultaneously supporting other development sectors diligently, Vietnam has notably excelled in justice for its minority groups (e.g. the poor, people with disabilities, women, children, ethnic minorities, etc.).

Vietnam has current available resources of $25.7 million. Here's how it is dividing its funding between the 17 SDGs as of 2022:

Funding

1. $1.1M is available for No Poverty (4.2%)

2. $63.3k is available for Zero Hunger (0.2%)

3. $3.5M is available for Good Health & Well-Being (13.5%)

4. $197.5k is available for Quality Education (0.8%)

5. $6M is available for Gender Equality (23.4%)

6. $0 is available for Clean Water and Sanitation (0%)

7. $0 is available for Affordable and Clean Energy (0%)

8. $3.7M is available for Decent Jobs & Economic Growth (14.3%)

9. $570.3k is available for Industry, Innovation, & Infrastructure (2.2%)

10. $165k is available for Reduced Inequalities (0.6%)

11. $7.3M is available for Sustainable Cities and Development (28.5%)

12 $0 is available for Responsible Consumption & Production (0%)

13. $109k is available for Climate Action (0.4%)

Further solidifying Vietnam's commitment to social justice issues, a programme involving integrated nutrition and food security strategies was implemented from 2015-2017 under the influence of the SDGF. As approximately 2.1M young children are stunted due to food insecurity in the country, concerns with poverty has, over the years, increased. To quote SDGF's page articulating the programme, "The SDG Fund programme objective [was] to support development and implementation of integrated nutrition and food security strategies. The programme also [supported] capacity development of local institutions, organizations and policy makers managing and implementing nutrition and food security programmes." It aims to primarily promote proper nutrition and food secutirty for women and children through varied measures. Despite the fact the results of the progrdamme are not broadcasted directly, it was said to have aimed to, and allegedly reached 36 million women of reproductive age and 7.1 million children (under the age of 5).
