A Marxist Approach
Marxist literary criticism is based off the theories of Karl Marx, his main belief is that the structure of society is built on a series of ongoing conflicts between social classes.
Barry the Bee goes straight into the workforce, working with honey. Finding his job boring and unfulfilling he decides to fly outside the hive and befriends a human named Vanessa which is against the rules of the colony. Barry discovers that humans have been stealing honey for centuries and decides to sue them for theft.
The bee's are considered the subordinate class. They wrok in a factory for the majority of their lives making honey.
Barry B. Benson is the only bee uncomfortable with living this way and questions the exploitation of their hard work
The humans in the movie are considered the dominant class.
They gain all the benefits of the bee's hard work with no regard to what the bees go through to make it.
The main conflict between these two classes if the theft og the bees honey.
The humans are seen to have more power over the bees due to size and placement on heirarchy. They dominant the bees in more ways than just taking their honey.
Barry starts off the film seeming as he enjoys the way of life in which the bees live.
Once discovering the ugly truth of the human world,he goes out to fight against the capitalist honey manufacteurs to stop the greed they have for honey.
Barry is a good example of someone who aims for only good in the world.
^Barry discovers the honey theft and decides to sue the human race
The subordinate class values kindness, routine and the pollination of flowers.
And most definintly they value honey.
They live routined lives where they wake up and go to work to make honey every day till they die and that is the way they like to live.
Resistance can be seen as a big value to the bees as they do not want to give up their honey anymore.
When Barry breaksa big ruleand talks to Vanessa, he creates a friendship that will help him save the honey.
Feeling sympathetic for Barry and the other bees, Vanessa decides to go against her fellow humans and help Barry sue humanity for abusing the use of honey.
^Barry and Vanessa meet for the first time
From a bees point of view, the humans care about nothing more than getting what they want and doing anything to get it.
Vanessa however is seen as a woman who values all life and cares about the enviroment and society.
The humans assent to the ways thebees are treated and have no problem eating their honey.
Both Barry and Vanessa defect from the dominant values in society as they make a court cases against the manufacteurs of the honey being sold in stores.
These values were showing the decay of society and how the earth will plummet if humans continue to abuse their resources.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISrnYHt7AZA The world is failing to thriving due to the lack of pollination
The dominant class in the film shows ideas of being bourgeoisie as they have the captialist gain to get what they want at what cost. Humans only care about the material items (Honey) and that is what Barry is trying to expose
Societal forces are linked to the fate of the individual in a big way in this film.
The fate of the bees depends on the humans society buying honey but it is also ruining the bees lives by the greed for honey.
To conclude, TheBee Movie can be studied under many different criticisms but Marxism is surely present in the film.
Between the captialist greed of the humans, to the unidealistic views of the bees, this film has all the characteristics of a Marxist style.
