HOW?
International students undergo many life changes when they study in another country.
Many of these students come to different provinces in Canada, whether it is for culture, economic stability or career advancement. In addition, most of them arrive to become permanent residents and later obtain citizenship.
However, this decision involves leaving behind a whole life and, in many cases leaving their family in the country of origin. This presentation will address the critical factors involved in this decision.
Nowadays many people wish to emigrate from their countries for labour, economic or social reasons. However, they all have something in common: they are looking for a better future for themselves and their families.
In 2020, there were approximately 281 million international migrants, equivalent to 3.6% of the world's population.
Many countries have taken advantage of the large number of people seeking to migrate to another country and they have established policies and processes that allow them to accept immigrants in a controlled way in their countries.
Canada has one of the world's oldest populations and one of the world's lowest birth rates. This creates economic and fiscal pressures. As a result, Canada has been increasing its immigration levels since the late 1980s to increase its population, labour force, and economic growth rate. Canada now depends on immigration for most of its population and labour force growth and a larger share of its economic growth.
Canada is one of the countries that has valued these shortcomings worldwide and has turned them to its advantage, adopting structured migration policies, making this country one of the most attractive destinations for immigrants from all over the world.
An international student is someone who has decided to pursue educational activities in a country other than their origin. This is the case of many students who have decided to come to Canada for different reasons, of which they come determined to seek residence and, in some cases, decide to do so after seeing the benefits of the country
Salary is among the most critical factors when selecting studies and a country to migrate to. People are generally always dissatisfied with their current salary and want better-paying jobs. In this case, Canada is one of the countries with the best minimum wage.
Career advancement refers to the training and promotion opportunities students have during their work stage through extrinsic and intrinsic motivations to continue their careers, based on the study carried out. For example, courses, training or specializations that allow them to improve their probability of getting a better job.
People constantly seek to create a balance between their personal life and their work life. This is why the decisions they make in their professional career are directly influenced by their family ties; therefore, this aspect could influence the way they conceive the development of their career in the future.
Career expectations refer to the prospects that people have in relation to their career development, how they can obtain the appropriate results and how their professional career will evolve in the future.
Many international students are young people who must leave their culture and family behind. This initially affects people, but it allows them to be more independent and to find new ways to be in contact with their family.
Canada is known not only for its diversity but also for its commitment to family unification. Therefore, international students who want to be with their families while studying in Canada can bring their families to Canada. Canada's study permit program allows them to bring their partners and children.
Separating from the family is a crucial decision, but it brings many benefits to the student:
