The Class of 2020 started the year like every other senior. Experiencing those last memories and events with friends since kindergarten. Sadly, things didn't go the way they were planned and COVID-19 changed everything. After spring break, school was canceled for the remainder of the year. Prom, track, graduation, and the couple months left to make memories were just taken from everyone. Now that things have changed, we have to accept the changes and live with them. We have always been an extraordinary bunch of kids and we will make the best of it.
High School Highlights
"Although our senior year wasn't ideal, we definitely had a unique one. Due to the coronavirus, we had to obey quarantine rules and do online schooling, it was hard, but we got through it. There is a positive thing we can take away from this though, yes the most important year of our high school career was messed up, but we will have a great story to tell future generations, and we now know we can take anything that comes our way!"
"There are many different things throughout my high school career. Some of the major things would have to be all of the all of my accomplishments in sports, my accomplishments in the classroom, my accomplishments in the organizations, memories made with my friends, and being able to walk the halls and be a role model for the younger kids."
"The coronavirus has affected many in many ways. It cancelled the final months of my senior year which include my final year of track, senior prom, senior trip, graduation, and the last few months of memories. During this time, I have been able to spend more time with family, help on the farm, and I have learned that no matter what life throws at us we will succeed."
"My senior year was a weird one with moving a quarter way into the year but I think that the move is my biggest highlight. I made new friends, met new teachers, started doing better in school, getting along with people, and I got a new job that I enjoy. Aside from just the move, more highlights would be the welding competitions I got to go to with Mr. Bledsoe and learning hose to tig weld."
"Coronavirus has given me the opportunity to work more, which led me to be able to afford a very nice horse."

"The corona virus has affected me in a lot of ways, but the one that stand out to me the most is the fact that it “cancelled” the rest of my senior year. I expected to be celebrating my accomplishments with my friends and walking the halls of my school, but instead I am stuck at home. Despite this unexpected turn of events, I have learned a very important lesson: don’t take anything for granted. Although I missed out on the last couple months with my class mates, I wouldn’t trade the memories I have with them for the world. I believe that that is one of the most important lessons that this pandemic can teach us."
"I'm sure most would expect highlights about sports and going to state basketball (even though I didn't really play). Or academic stuff like being valedictorian, a Kansas Honor Scholar, or placing 3rd and 4th at regional scholars bowl the last two years. But really, I would have to say that the real highlights of being in high school have come from watching all girls playing volleyball, basketball, and track, successfully, while also succeeding in the classroom at a super high level."
"Obviously, the coronavirus has had a big effect on myself, from ending the school year, including prom, senior trip, and delaying graduation. It has also made it harder to get ready for college, as I was planning on going to a “registration day” at Tabor to sign up for classes and stuff, but all of that got moved to being done over a zoom call. I’ve been able to stay positive through this all by knowing that it’s out of my control, so we just have to roll with it and not let our worrying drag us down."

"The coronavirus impacted my senior year. I was looking forward to track season, competitions, prom, graduation ceremony, and senior trip; I was heartbroken at the thought of missing these events. It is lonely to be stuck at home and not being able to see my school friends. I became more self-aware around people. I practice social distancing and wear a face mask whenever I am in public. I have read news headlines about Asian Americans being discriminated against, so hopefully, that doesn't happen to me. I think people should be nice to health workers, businesses people, and people in general, because they may be struggling due to coronavirus."
"Some of my favorite memories at Hope are Sophomore prom, helping with elementary field day, going to San Antonio, and senior fall hoco week."
"It is really unfortunate that prom, senior trip, and graduation were all cancelled but I have got to spend a lot of time with my family and it’s been great. I think this pandemic has reminded us of what’s really important."

"The coronavirus has affected me in some ways. One way I am affected is that I can’t finish my senior year. Another way is that I can’t come home as often because of working at the hospital. Ways I have stayed positive is just by staying busy. "
