- Typically in these areas there is some room for improvement for me. When it comes to cognitive skills I generally have a hard time organizing information and sometimes developing new ideas or plans is difficult for me. I could potentially work on this by changing how I study and process information
In the area of technological skills I sometimes have issues adapting to technology I'm not that familiar with but for the most part in this area I do a good job with this skill
Skills I have a hard time with include communication, social, and personal. According to Appleby et al., all these skills are valuable to the psychology field and assist greatly in the interpersonal area of the psychology field which I generally have trouble with.
The skill of communication involves listening and public speaking, and public speaking is something I generally have issues with due to anxiety. The social area is another part where I have problems with because leadership is generally not my forte and I generally work better alone or when I take a supporting role in group projects.
- To improve skills in the communication and social areas the best way is probably to expose myself to more situations where I will have to deal with social interaction and thus it will allow me to practice and develop these skills. In the field of psychology interacting with people is very common so this will be essential.
Employable skills and other skills I have learned as a result of my psychology class include critical thinking, applied academic skills, and resource management. A lot of the concepts covered in this class have helped me to analyze and reason more when thinking about things and I have also learned a lot about applying this to decision making.
Skills needed to focus on a career in journalism which is my ideal field include critical thinking/reasoning, social/personal skills and the use of technology.
