Soccer Positions

Kamryn Ross

Introduction

Soccer is an athletic game of fun. The ball soaring through the air just as an offensive player kicks the ball into the netted goal. Do you want to give it a try? Come on, lets go learn the three main positions! In order to find out more about soccer positions, read on! The three main positions are offense, mid-field, and defense.

Introduction

The Problem

Offense

First of all, if you decide to play soccer, you may play offense. All offensive players play up field. Up field is inside the white lines that board the field. It is the half you are attempting to score on. Also, offensive players get breakaways. A breakaway is when an offensive player is dribbling, alone, towards the goal and trying to score. I remember when I got a breakaway. I was swiftly dribbling down the field. Whoosh! I took a powerful shot and scored a goal for my hardworking team.

Hi!

Mid-field

Secondly, if you decide to play soccer you may play mid-field. Mid-field requires a ton of running. When I play mid-field, I feel like I could almost pass out! Players that play mid-field have to run from eighteen to eighteen. That is the bigger box around the goalie and since there is one on each side, that is how far they run. Mid-field also helps offense and defense. For example, if the ball is up field, the mid-field should hustle up with them. If the ball is on the side you are defending, then mid-field plays back. Also, if you play mid-field you pass the ball up to offense. After mid-field passes the ball up, they move with the offense. Mid-field players also score about half the goals. I would say roughly around fifty percent.

Defense

Furthermore, if you decide to play soccer you may play defense. Players that play defense play in front of the goalie. Outside the eighteen, most of the time. Defensive players play on the half you and your team are guarding. They protect the net-keeper from some of the shots. Sixty-five percent of the time they, defensive players, block shots for the goalie. Defensive players hardly ever score. Five percent of defensive players score goals. That is why most of them ask to move up to mid-field because defense can be very boring at times. I remember when a girl on my team scored a goal from half while playing defense. It was a spectacular shot! My team and I were ecstatic!
