The scientific name for the dingo is Canis lupus dingo. The Dingo is native to Australia. They have been around for about 4,000 years. That's roughly 16 times the age of the United States of America. It has evolved it's hunting skills to be more stealth and quick.
Closest living relative
The Dingos closest living relative is the New Guinea Singing Dog. It's scientific name is Canis dingo hallstromi. It has been native to the New Guinea Highlands for about 4,000 years. It's climate is high up in the mountains of New Guinea.
The Dingos ancestor is the Urocyon Progressus, More commonly known as the Leptocyon. Which is Greek for "Slender Dog." Fossils have shown that they were around about 4 million years ago. It's habitat was warm summers and cold winters in a Jungle type biome, it was never extremely cold or extremely hot where they lived. They like to hunt and live in the Highlands of Australia in packs of 3 to 6 other Leptocyons to help bring down large prey. They had sharp teeth to tear flesh off of the bone of their prey. They had small legs for running quick and changing direction. They had rough fur to be more wind resistand and to act as an outer layer protection against larger predators.
Alalysis Of Different Species
Research Species Adapted from the ones that survived such as sharper teeth to rip flesh from bones of their prey. Rougher fur to act as an outer layer of protection against larger predators. The earth has changed because of them preying on Red Kangaroos and cattle. Dingos has dramatically decreased the number of Red Kangaroos and cattle in most areas of Australia. And Shepherds are struggling to keep cattle alive and healthy.
The dingo and its ancestors had similarities such as Thick fur, it also had big paws to help itself balance and to bring down large prey. It also had similarities such as just being small in general, it was very quick and could change direction very quickly. It was very fast and even had amazing eyesight and an incredible sense of smell to detect prey or danger. The dingo and its ancestor also had differences such as the dingo was not as large as its ancestor. Therefore making it harder to catch prey. But it also had an advantage, it's Advantage was that it was much faster and quicker. That made it easier to catch smaller prey. But the only side effect of being small was that it had less choices of prey to take down there for making it harder to catch enough food for the pack. Also it wasn't very intimidating because it was so small. It had a hard time scaring off predators and claiming territory making it harder for them to survive. Dingo and its closest living relative, known as The Singing Dog, had many similarities as well. starting off the dingo and its relative are both small and can catch the same size pray as one another. It also likes to hunt in packs of 3 to 6. hunting in packs of numbers helps it bring down larger prey. a dingo and its relative also have thick layer of fur, making it easier for them to stay warm during the cold Winters and also easier to have an extra rough and thick outer layer of protection.
